My name is Becky. I have been in the field for more than 15 years. I started as teacher assistant in a classroom for students with Autism. I loved it so much that I continued to pursue it as a career. I became a teacher and a district wide Autism Support Specialist. I then became a BCBA and decided to pursue the clinical side of life. I am raising my 15 year old sister. She has ADHD, intellectual disabilities, Apraxia, and sensory processing disorder. So I live the world of special needs parenting while also working with clients and families. We have a service dog named Nate who is brings us so much joy. I live in Shelby, NC. I love being close to mountains and the beach.
My practice philosophy is to give clients as much independence and joy in life as possible. Collaboration with the client, family, and all stakeholders is critical to teaching independence while also fostering joy in the process. As a special needs parent, I understand the hardships of the day in and out. I try to bridge the gap between clinical expectations and family life to allow clients to thrive and grow.
When I was in the classroom as a young teacher and just learning to implement ABA, I had a student that did not like to transition. It became a game of chase every day. I was unsure what to do, when I stumbled onto a way to transition the learner by playing a game. We crawled on the floor pretending to be cats chasing a toy. The child went right to where he was supposed to go, sat in the chair, and did all of his work. It was this moment that the trajectory of my career changed. I became passionate about compassionate care and activities that motivate clients to enjoy learning and growing.
I love seeing clients grow and build confidence in what they can do! I love collaborating with families to build supports and routines in the home that increase the quality of life for everyone.
I will provide your child with high quality ABA programming while incorporating your concerns, your child's needs, and what works in the environment. I will advocate for your child and listen to your concerns. I will celebrate victories with you no matter how big or small.
